Dr. ChrisQureshi

Retina, Vitreous and Macula Specialist

Dr. Chris Qureshi is a leading vitreoretinal surgeon with over 16 years of experience in ophthalmology. He holds degrees in Medical Science and Medicine from the University of NSW, a Master’s in Ophthalmic Science from the University of Sydney, and has trained internationally at Oxford University. He is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and an active member of global ophthalmology societies who specialises in complex retinal surgeries.

Dr. Qureshi treats conditions like retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membrane, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. As a senior staff specialist at Westmead Hospital, he is passionate about teaching advanced cataract and retinal surgery techniques while contributing to research and training future eye care professionals.

Our Wednesday Clinic is located at Mudgee Medical Centre at 145 Church St Mudgee. Upon Arrival enter the doors to the right of the cafe, on the side of the pharmacy, and look for Dr. Qureshi's Receptionist. We're keen to see you there!

How long after retinal surgery can I travel on a plane?

2 to 6 weeks depending on which gas is used. If silicone oil is used then there is no restriction on air travel.

What should I be worried about after eye surgery?

If the eye becomes more red or painful or the vision gets worse. If any of these symptoms occur please contact the eye clinic.

When can I resume my usual activities after eye surgery?

Washing hair - 1 week, Lifting more than 20kg - 2 weeks, Swimming- 2 weeks

When can I drive after eye surgery? 

As a general rule, wait 4 weeks until the brain adjusts to the vision between the two eyes. If both eyes are operated on the same day then you may be able to drive the following day depending on how the eyes heal.

What can I do to prepare for my eye surgery?

Gentle warm compress on the eyelids and massage the eyelids four times a day. Preservative free lubricants 4 to 6 times a day.

How long does it take to recover from eye surgery?

The eye will be slightly irritable for the first week but this will improve with drops.The vision will improve between 1 and 3 days after surgery and even up to six weeks. The vision can remain blurred after retinal surgery depending on the presence of gas (up to 2 weeks) or oil (until the oil is removed). 

How long do I need to take off work after eye surgery?

At least one week for cataract surgery and 2 weeks after retinal surgery.
