Immediate Post-Operative Care

It is imperative that patients follow these instructions to ensure a quick and healthy recovery and minimise risk of complications. View the Catatact post-operative instructions here and the Vitero Retinal post-operative instructions here as well as the recovery procedures for both procedures here.

Cataract Post-Operative Instructions

What to Expect After Surgery

  • You may experience a 'scratchy sensation. Don't be alarmed: this sensation is coming from the slightly swollen wound edge. It will improve in 2-3 days.
  • There may be some discomfort, but you should NOT require any medication stronger than Paracetamol or Panadeine. If you need stronger pain relief, please contact your surgeon on the number provided below.

The Wound Dressing and Post Operative Medication

• Please leave the dressing intact until the day after surgery when you start the eye drops.

Eyedrops

  • After the dressing is removed, you will use ONE drop from EACH bottle FOUR times a day. FIVE minutes apart-any order.
  • Please shake each bottle and wash your hands before use. Each bottle should last 4 weeks.
  • You will be given a prescription before you are discharged. Please get it completed and signed by the doctor at discharge.
  • Use the drops, day after surgery, until it finishes.

An example of times:

  • CHLORSIG (Antibiotic) 2 Weeks: 8:00 am, 12:00 pm , 4:00 pm, 8:00 pm
  • PREDNEFRIN FORTE (anti-inflamatory) 4 Weeks: 8:05 am, 12:05 pm, 4:05 pm, 8:05 pm

Tablets

  • You have been given 3 diamox tablets to take home.
  • Please take ONE at night with dinner. ONE tomorrow with breakfast and ONE at night with dinner.
  • These tablets help reduce the pressure in your eye. They also cause excess urination. Please drink plenty of water for the first 24 hours after surgery.

Vitreo-Retinal Surgery Post Operative Instructions

  • You may notice blurred vision and a black line in the vision. It will go away after 1-2 weeks depending on the gas.
  • Remember that as your eye heals, your vision may fluctuate. This may occur over the first 2-6 weeks, if gas or oil has been placed in the eye, then your vision is expected to be poor until the gas clears or the oil is removed.
  • Mild pain can be relieved by taking pain killers such as paracetamol.
  • Following the operation, you should rest and take it easy. You can carry out normal day-to-day

Treatment Process

It is imperative that patients follow these instructions to ensure a quick and healthy recovery and minimise risk of complications.

01. Staying Hydrated Post-Surgery

Diamox tablets help reduce eye pressure but cause increased urination. Drink plenty of water in the first 24 hours post-surgery to stay hydrated and support recovery.

02. Eye Drops and Medication Schedule

Expect a scratchy sensation and mild discomfort post-surgery. This is normal and should subside within a few days. Use Paracetamol or Panadeine for pain relief if needed.

03. Importance of Wound Dressing Integrity

Keep the wound dressing intact until you start using your prescribed eye drops the day after surgery. This helps in preventing infections and ensures proper healing.

04. Managing Post-Surgery Discomfort

Expect a scratchy sensation and mild discomfort post-surgery. This is normal and should subside within a few days. Use Paracetamol or Panadeine for pain relief if needed.
